As every April 9 of each year we celebrate the Araw ng Kagitingan, along with this we also celebrate for the Veterans Week. For this year, the theme of the celebration is “IPUNLA ANG KAGITINGAN SA KABATAAN, IHANDA ANG BETERANO NG KINABUKASAN.” The celebration started on April 5 with the Sunrise Ceremony at Libingan ng mga Bayani and will end on April 11 at the same place with the Sunset Ceremonies.
In Eastern Mindanao area, facilitated by the EASTERN MINDANAO COMMAND led by Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad, in celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan, conducted simultaneous flag raising in its two (2) major cities, Davao and Cagayan de Oro. In Davao City, attended by different governmental and non-government groups, high- ranking officials of the city, the Veterans and for and in behalf of Lt. Gen. Baladad, Commodore Joel T. dela Cruz, AFP Commander, NFEM attended the activity at Bayanihan Veterans Memorial Monument at Roxas Avenue. While in Cagayan de Oro, the flag raising was conducted at KIOSKO Kagawasan, Divisoria attended by Col. Bartolome Vicente O. Dacarro, GSC (INF) PA, Chief of Staff of 4ID also along with the high ranking officials of the city, Veterans and members of some governmental and non-governmental groups.
The activity is still part of the nationwide celebration of the Day of Valor along with the celebration of the Veterans Week. It does not only commemorate the Araw ng Kagitingan but also the in continuing memory in honor of the heroism and braveness of all Veterans during the war.
As the theme of this year meant, the celebrations does not only end in the parks or in anywhere we hold programs, but in our homes, in our community, in our churches where we could reach out to others, especially the young ones not just to inform them of the activity but foremost, to let them understand the reason why we are celebrating. This year is the 73rd year of celebrating this occasion but to each year we are not certain if the reason why there is Araw ng Kagitingan is understood. We cannot be sure of ourselves if those who attended previous years’ activities have really deciphered the essence and true meaning of the celebration.
For this year and for the years to come, the government alongside with its agencies wants to partake the celebration to the hope of our nation, the youth. It encourages the youth of today to be challenged and be responsible in the issues and situation of the nation. To not just live normally like babies do but to make a difference in the society and make ‘betterment of our nation’ as part of their goals in life. To not just be informed of the situations but take conscientious and morally upright actions taking future as a consideration of their decisions. The government wants every youth of today to consider their present goals their and activities in preparation for the future.
To the youth of this generation, be challenged and accept what this nation can offer— to prepare you for the future. For in future, you will not be anymore the youth to be prepared but the mature ones who will prepare the youth for their future.
