Digos Massacre – June 25, 1989, in a small village in Digos, Davao del Sur, 39 people most of them were children were mercilessly killed by CPP-NPA rebels while they were attending sunday mass.
On 18 April 2015, representatives from the EASTERN MINDANAO COMMAND particularly from 5th CRG, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, TOG XI, 10th CMO Battalion, Task Force Davao, Philippine Coast Guard and groups like Seda Hotel, DOLE Philippines, JCI Davaoena Daba-Daba, React Echo Group Panabo and React Madayaw Durian Group joined hands in the conservation project in Sanipaan Marine Park located in Brgy Tambo, Babak, Island Garden City of Samal.
The activity will not simply fall under the so-called “Corporate Social Responsibility.” It is already a continuing responsibility to all who attended since they were also there when the conservation project started 3 years ago.
They all wished that the mangrove seedlings planted will grow and hope to see it in the future propagate and will cover the entirety of Sanipaan. They encouraged each other to continue support projects like that and all other projects that aims to protect the environment.
Based on the successful idea of AFP’s Bayanihan, it is already the moral imperative to all Filipinos to commonly do things like the said activity that is beneficial to everybody, to the environment and to the whole country.
Mahirap man gawin, ngunit lagi nating isipin, tayo’y matibay kung magsama-sama.
As every April 9 of each year we celebrate the Araw ng Kagitingan, along with this we also celebrate for the Veterans Week. For this year, the theme of the celebration is “IPUNLA ANG KAGITINGAN SA KABATAAN, IHANDA ANG BETERANO NG KINABUKASAN.” The celebration started on April 5 with the Sunrise Ceremony at Libingan ng mga Bayani and will end on April 11 at the same place with the Sunset Ceremonies.
In Eastern Mindanao area, facilitated by the EASTERN MINDANAO COMMAND led by Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad, in celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan, conducted simultaneous flag raising in its two (2) major cities, Davao and Cagayan de Oro. In Davao City, attended by different governmental and non-government groups, high- ranking officials of the city, the Veterans and for and in behalf of Lt. Gen. Baladad, Commodore Joel T. dela Cruz, AFP Commander, NFEM attended the activity at Bayanihan Veterans Memorial Monument at Roxas Avenue. While in Cagayan de Oro, the flag raising was conducted at KIOSKO Kagawasan, Divisoria attended by Col. Bartolome Vicente O. Dacarro, GSC (INF) PA, Chief of Staff of 4ID also along with the high ranking officials of the city, Veterans and members of some governmental and non-governmental groups.
The activity is still part of the nationwide celebration of the Day of Valor along with the celebration of the Veterans Week. It does not only commemorate the Araw ng Kagitingan but also the in continuing memory in honor of the heroism and braveness of all Veterans during the war.
As the theme of this year meant, the celebrations does not only end in the parks or in anywhere we hold programs, but in our homes, in our community, in our churches where we could reach out to others, especially the young ones not just to inform them of the activity but foremost, to let them understand the reason why we are celebrating. This year is the 73rd year of celebrating this occasion but to each year we are not certain if the reason why there is Araw ng Kagitingan is understood. We cannot be sure of ourselves if those who attended previous years’ activities have really deciphered the essence and true meaning of the celebration.
For this year and for the years to come, the government alongside with its agencies wants to partake the celebration to the hope of our nation, the youth. It encourages the youth of today to be challenged and be responsible in the issues and situation of the nation. To not just live normally like babies do but to make a difference in the society and make ‘betterment of our nation’ as part of their goals in life. To not just be informed of the situations but take conscientious and morally upright actions taking future as a consideration of their decisions. The government wants every youth of today to consider their present goals their and activities in preparation for the future.
To the youth of this generation, be challenged and accept what this nation can offer— to prepare you for the future. For in future, you will not be anymore the youth to be prepared but the mature ones who will prepare the youth for their future.
Our soldiers and our policemen have again proven the seriousness and dedication in their mission to arrest and run after the members of Communist Party of the Philippines, New People’s Army and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDF).
DAVAO CITY – A high-ranking leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) wanted for various crimes and another rebel were arrested Tuesday evening in Barangay Sirawan, Toril, this city.
The NPA leader was identified as Vincent Estrada with aliases Brod, Bords, Oban, and Dennis Montecillo. He was arrested at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday along with comrade Zacarias delos Santos Mancia Jr.
Estrada and Mancia were onboard an Isuzu Bighorn SUV headed for this city when they were nabbed in a checkpoint. A warrant of arrest was earlier issued against them.
Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, Lieutenant Vergel Lacambra, said Estrada has been charged with kidnapping and illegal detention at Regional Trial Court Branch 3 in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.
Recovered from the possession of the two communist rebels were a caliber .45 pistol and two fragmentation grenades.
Major General Eduardo Ano, 10th Infantry Division commander, said the arrest of the two rebels is expected to create a huge vacuum in leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines and NPA in Davao Region.
Estrada, he added, is a high-valued cadre, making it difficult for the communist movement to train and replace him.
“We urge the other NPA rebels who are being deceived by their leaders to surrender and embrace a peaceful life in the mainstream society. Being in the armed group, you can run but you cannot hide forever,” Ano said.
Lacambra said that since 2014, five high-ranking NPA leaders were arrested in Davao Region.(Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
Again, congratulations to our soldiers and policemen.

The group aims to not only clean the coastal areas on that day, but it serves as a take-off and will have series of schedules on different coasts in the city. Also, the activity hopes to encourage the residents of the city, most especially residents living near the area to clean or at least maintain the cleanliness that the group has achieved after yesterday’s activity.
Obviously, what the group has done is tiring but they also enjoyed what they did and just enjoyed the thought that they can help the environment and residents of the area.
