“Troops Scores: 1 NPA Captured, 1 Dead, 2 Firearms & Landmines Recovered”
CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City– Troops under 1st Special Forces Battalion, operationally controlled by 4th Infantry Division, scores again over the NPA Bandits at Brgy Kagawasan, an outskirt barangay of Kibawe, Bukidnon, at around 6 pm on January 12, 2016.
Presence of the said NPA group was tipped-off by the concerned civilians who were threatened by their (NPA) extortion activities. Moreover, according to the civilians, said NPA group is planning to conduct hostile activities to hamper development in the area.
Upon the receipt of said information, Ltc Nasser P Lidasan, Commanding Officer of 1stSpecial Forces Battalion, immediately sent troops to address the said situation.
Unmindful of the civilians nearby, NPA bandits indiscriminately opened fire but the troops managed to maneuver to advantage position, keeping the civilians away from danger.
The encounter lasted for about 40 minutes resulting to one (1) NPA dead, one (1) Captured, recovery of one (1) M14 and one (1) M16 rifles, three (3) Improvised Explosive Devices, five (5) back packs with NPA personal belongings, and subversive documents with high intelligence value.
Personnel from Kibawe Municipal Police Station proceeded at the encounter site to facilitate the conduct of investigation. The dead NPA was immediately turned over to the local officials for proper disposition and to provide a decent burial.
Col Jesse A Alvarez, Commander of 403rd Infantry Brigade said, “I congratulate my gallant soldiers who successfully protected the people from these NPA bandits and prevented the NPA’s possible hostile activities. Thanks to the concerned civilians who provided timely information that resulted to the successful operation. This is a manifestation that the people are already fed-off with the lies and atrocities of these NPA and also an evidence that the NPA local terrorists really don’t want any development for our people. However, we are saddened about the loss of one Filipino. He could have been alive by now; enjoying peaceful life with his family, if the NPA leaders and their cohorts did not deceived him to join this non-sense armed struggle.”
As of press time, troops are still in pursuit of the withdrawing NPAs.
