LANDMINE BLAST KILLS 3, WOUNDS 14 SOLDIERS IN COMVAL
1001ST BRIGADE, 10TH INFANTRY DIVISION, MACO, COMPOSTELA VALLEY – Soldiers of 1001st Brigade while conducting Peace and Development Outreach Program were landmined by members of NPA at KM 11, Brgy Cabuyoan, Mabini, Compostela Valley Province around 6:30 in the evening of December 12.
One soldier and one CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) were killed while fourteen soldiers were slightly injured after the blast. Unfortunately, one civilian was also killed and one civilian was wounded and is in critical condition due to the landmine explosion. Said civilians were travelling along the provincial road going to Barangay Anitapan, Mabini, CVP. NPAs are unmindful on the use of landmines whether it is inflicted upon soldiers or civilians.
The 10th Infantry Division (10ID) together with the Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Council of Compostela Valley strongly condemn the NPAs’ use of landmine. This act of the NPAs is a clear violation on the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) where the CPP-NPA-NDF is a signatory. This is also a violation of the UN Convention against the use of landmines. These evil acts reflect the true nature of the CPP-NPA-NDF.
The 10ID, Compostela Valley Police Provincial Office, Local Government Units and other stakeholders extend their deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of the killed soldier, CAA and the civilian.
Despite this incident, 10ID is more determined to perform its duties and accomplish its mission to make ComVal peaceful and more conducive for development. We will continue to conduct Peace and Development Outreach Program, and we will make sure that the rule of law and respect for human rights will be observed.
We ask for the cooperation of the public to be more vigilant and report presence of lawless armed group and landmines to the 1001st Brigade Hotline Nr 09177090195.
