DAVAO — A top-ranking leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in southeastern Mindanao was arrested Sunday at a joint military and police checkpoint in Barangay Magnaga, Pantukan, Compostela Valley.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Davao Region Deputy Director Edilberto DC Leonardo identified the rebel leader as Jordan Reyes Donillo, 42, of Sitio Pagsilan in Barangay Cabuyoan in the nearby Mabini town.
Donillo was tagged as number 2 in the most wanted list of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Eastern Mindanao (DIPO-EM). He is also listed as most wanted by the Department of National Defense-Department of the Interior and Local Government (DND-DILG), Leonardo said.
Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division Public Affairs chief Vergel Lacambra, in a statement, said Donillo functions as the commander of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 18, with P2.5 million cash reward for his arrest.
Before he was assigned to lead the Guerilla Front 18 in Compostela Valley, Donillo was a former member of the Special Operations Group of the NPA’s National Military Command that kept track in killing retired General Jovito Palparan in Metro Manila in 2000.
He was formerly the secretary of the Guerilla Front 18 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) from 2006 to 2010; vice commander of the Pulang Bagani Command (PBC) 1 under Leoncio Pitao, alias Ka Paragu in 2011; and commander of the PBC 6 in Davao Oriental from 2011 to 2013.
Leonardo said Donillo was arrested around 5:30 p.m. at Purok 2 in Magnaga, Pantukan by the Army’s 2nd and 3rd Maneuvering Platoon, Compostela Provincial Public Safety Company, and CIDG-Davao in service of the warrant of arrest.
“He was arrested with the aid of the intelligence operation. Lahat ng profile ng mga high-ranking targets nakalista yan so the authorities can monitor them one-by-one kung nasaan man sila. He was arrested at a checkpoint. We’re informed na dadaan ang itong sasakyan kung saan siya nakasakay,” Leonardo said.
Leonardo said Donillo was with a woman before his arrest.
He added that Donillo is temporarily detained at the CIDG-Davao jail facility pending commitment order from the issuing courts.
Recovered from Donillo’s possession were one colt MKIV caliber .45 pistol with SN: 192688 with one magazine loaded with five live ammunitions; two improvised explosive devices (IED), so-called handcap; one unit Nokia100 cellular phone; and two sling bags.
Leonardo said Donillo will also be charged with violation of the Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act based on the equipments recovered from his possession during his arrest.
Donillo was earlier charged with double murder and multiple frustrated murder, and robbery before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 3 in Nabunturan; robbery in band with multiple frustrated murder before the Municipal Trial Court of the Cities (MTCC) in New Bataan, all in Compostela Valley.
He was also charged with attempted murder before the RTC Branch 10 in Davao City; and murder before the RTC Branch 6 in Mati City, Lacambra said, adding that Donillo was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in 2002 because of these criminal cases.
“Donillo, however, was rescued by a communist group in Tagum City while en route for the arraignment of his cases. His notoriety could be traced back when he led his unit in attacking San Isidro Municipal Police Station in August 22, 2007 and Davao Oriental Provincial Jail in Mati in May 19, 2008,” Lacambra said.
He also led the attack at the Banay-Banay Municipal Police Station in July 3, 2008 and the arson of a bus in Banay-Banay in Davao Oriental last 2009.
Donillo also led the attack of a military temporary patrol base of the 28th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Maputi in Banay-Banay that killed three soldiers.
“Kung saan siyang court appropriate ilagay, dun siya na area mata-transfer. Pero titignan pa namin yung ibang existing warrant of arrest niya. If this involves security risk, we will make a request from the court to wave muna yung pag transfer sa kanya. For now, it will be safer na nandito siya,” Leonardo said. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
In line with the 79th Armed Forces of the Philippines Anniversary Celebration the 5th Civil Relations Group, CRSAFP have conducted an activity dubbed as “Salute to the Troops: A Mini-Concert and Static Display” yesterday, December 10, 2014 at NCCC Mall of Davao featuring the “Fireball Band” from 25th Infantry Battalion (25IB) of the 10th Infantry Division (10ID).
A static display was also showcased to promote the image and virtue of the AFP through the means of entertainment by reaching the community and showing the other face of the AFP which is more concern on peace and development efforts for the community.
Along with this is the “Human Rights Consciousness Week” which also adheres mainly on the protection and preservation of the rights of the people. It doesn’t necessarily mean that we are only going to abide in these rights during this week-long celebration but we have to bear in mind that preserving the rights of our fellow Filipinos is a mandate that we need to follow.
The “Gift-Giving Activity” was also present wherein this group has chosen the Magsaysay Elementary School, Marilog District, Davao City to be the beneficiary institution. This is to give love and assistance to our needy children in the far flung areas which they can use on a daily basis such as the three hundred twenty seven (327) slippers, three hundred (300) books and seven (7) large buckets of biscuits courtesy of this unit.
Also, part of the activity is the Jollibee treat for the children since it was their first time to step in the City and it was also their first time to dine in Jollibee. You can visibly see in their countenances the picture of unfathomable joy that even for once they have experienced such immeasurable delight.
Undeniably, the feeling was rewarding upon seeing this elementary students take plight to even the simplest thing the AFP have offered particularly the 5CRG, CRSAFP who made this activity possible to this chosen young generation.
This activity is also in commemoration of our soldiers who rendered extraordinary sacrifice for the betterment of our country. The activity intends to amuse the audience by giving a break to our hardworking soldiers from their hazardous and stressful working days. The main objective of this tribute is to acknowledge and show gratitude for the service and sacrifices of our Filipino soldiers.
Be a channel of blessing to each and every one. Happy Human Rights Consciousness Week! Mabuhay 79th AFP Day! And a Merry Christmas to all!
