Three (3) NPA members were killed in a clash with government troops in Sitio Matabang, Brgy. Taocanga, Manay, Davao Oriental at around 8:30 a.m., January 29. The soldiers recovered 2 M16; 1 AK47; 1 M4 rifles, 3 landmines, 1 cellphone and documents from the NPAs. One wounded NPA was also captured while 1 soldier was killed in action.
The civilians in the barangay reported the presence of the NPA who were accordingly starting to extort from them. The civilians revealed that they do not want the NPA anymore in their place. “They are a hindrance to our community development”. A civilian said
67th IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Krishnamurti A. Mortela said that the criminal group is attempting to recover their former stronghold that were liberated from the NPA clutches in 2012 but the populace are already resisting them.
Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III praised the soldiers of 67th IB for securing the communities from the NPA extortion. He further reminded all military units in the area to undertake joint operations with the PNP. “Coordination among units for augmentation of forces is mandatory”. Lt. Gen. Cruz said
NSFA, Panacan, Davao City– Eight soldiers of the 57th Infantry Battalion (57th IB) were wounded in an NPA landmine blast while on board KM 450 troop carrier while traversing along vicinity Purok 2, Brgy. Luna Norte, Makilala North Cotabato around 12:45 a.m., Thursday.
57th IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Nilo P. Vinluan said that they monitored the NPAs plan to resume attacks to communities including burning of construction equipment in the province. “Our soldiers are deployed to safeguard our people from NPAs barbaric attack and extortion in the area. The wounded soldiers were immediately brought to Kidapawan Hospital for treatment. ” Lt. Col. Vinluan said
It can be recalled that on September 1, 2013, the NPA attacked the Standard Rubber Development Corporation in Makilala and killed its Manager in a landmine explosion. The 20M worth rubber processing factory left some 700 rubber farm workers jobless.
North Cotabato Governor Emilylou Mendoza condemned the atrocities committed by the NPA in a twin landmine attack in Tulunan and Makilala on October 21, 2013 which left 9 soldiers dead and 6 others wounded.
Civilian reports point to the Fronts 72 and 51 of the NPA as responsible for these atrocities.
The use of landmine is a violation of the provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian law (CARHRIHL).
EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III earlier directed ground troops to inspect the trails and roadnets that are regularly used by the farmers and residents to protect them from becoming victims of the apparent desperate move of the NPA to delay security patrols aimed at pushing them away from the communities who are already complaining of fear and extortions.
NPA members Efren Genoya alias Jonas, team leader of an extortion unit of NPA voluntarily surrendered to the soldiers of 66th IB in Brgy. Cabinuangan, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province around 8:00 a.m. January 26 while Ailyn Pandatu alias Divine; Ena Pandatu alias Christine; Bonjoe Ulaw alias Dennis; and Dodok Quileste alias Robert all members of the NPA surrendered to the soldiers of the 27th IB in Sitio Tuboran, Brgy Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato around 9:00 a.m. January 25 and a certain alias Bryan and alias Jason all of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee of the CPP/NPA/NDF surrendered to the soldiers of the 67th IB in Brgy. Salingkumot, Baganga, Davao Oriental around 12:00 noon of January 24.
The returnees revealed that they were persuaded by the false promises of the NPA leaders. Alias Bryan and alias Jason escaped while their group was on recruitment in Brgy. Langgawisan, Maragusan, Compostela Valley Province. They all want to be reunited with their respective families and be a meaningful citizen in the community. They are now undergoing interview at respective headquarters and for proper disposition.
For the record, there were a total of 200 NPA surrenderees for the calendar year 2013 and a total of 20 NPA surrenderees in the EASTMINCOM area of responsibility as of this year. The concerned units facilitated the livelihood and cash assistance for the NPA returnees.
EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III commended the returnees for deciding to return to the folds of the law and be reunited with their respective families. “I am confident that there would be more NPA returnees in the coming days. This is the result of the collaboration between our local officials, community and our Bayanihan teams on peace outreach works in the far flung barangays”. Lt. Gen. Cruz said.
NPA members Robert Daging alias Alex and Abet Guinson alias Abet voluntarily surrendered to the soldiers of the 36th Infantry Battalion of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division Saturday noon. They brought along with them a Garand and a Carbine rifles in Brgy. Hinapuyan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur.
Robert Daging is a member of NPA Front 21 while Abet Guinson belongs to Front 30 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) of the NPA operating in Surigao provinces. They admitted that they were victims of NPAs deceptions.
The duo revealed that they want to be reunited with their families after they realize the hardships in the underground movement.
EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III reminded all military unit commanders in the area to immediately facilitate the completeness of documentary requirements needed for the AFPs Guns for Peace Program for the surrenderees to avail and to collaborate with LGUs for other necessary assistance. “If you know someone who is willing to surrender, bring them to the nearest AFP unit for processing for them to avail of the program” Lt. Gen. Cruz said.
Forty four (44) pieces of NPA landmines were recovered by the soldiers of 1003rd Infantry Brigade of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division who were on security patrols in Sitio Mampait, Brgy. Mansanitas, Agusan del Sur around 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Eight (8) sacks of PVC pipes, batteries, detonating cords, and improvised firing devices were also recovered in the area.
Civilian residents requested for military security patrols due to the presence of strangers roaming in vicinity Sitio Mampait of Brgy Mansanitas. “We immediately coordinated with the military for the protection of our villagers”, a concerned resident said.
“Landmines are made to kill civilians and government troops” an NPA surrenderee said.
EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz commended the residents for the timely reporting of their unusual observation in their barangay to the patrolling soldiers. “Civilian information leads to the recovery of these NPA landmines. We thank our people for their cooperation. Our soldiers are always ready to respond anywhere and whenever needed. NPA continue to violate the CARHRIHL. If the NPA are sincere about peace, they must stop manufacturing landmines as these kill people and destroy properties”. Lt. Gen. Cruz said
